Let’s face it - no ski holiday is truly complete without the soul-warming comfort of a proper hot chocolate. Whether you’re warming up after a brisk blue slope or celebrating the perfect powder day, that sweet, velvety goodness in a mug is the ultimate mountain indulgence.
So, we took on the (very serious) task of hunting down the best hot chocolate in Trysil. From classic creations to super-sized, fully-loaded mugs of marshmallow madness, we scaled Trysilfjellet in search of the most delicious 'varm sjokolade' on the mountain.
It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it...
In English, Kort & Godt means “Quick & Good” - but after our visit, we think a better name might be “Savour & Delight.”
The star of the show here? A giant marshmallow melting into a pool of rich chocolate in the most sumptuous way. It was divine.
To balance things out (kind of), we ordered a blueberry fruit muffin in the name of getting one of our five-a-day. If all fruit tasted like this, we’d be much more committed to being 'healthy'!
Opening in winter 2019, Fjellroa is one of Trysil's newer dining spots - but when it comes to hot chocolate, it's already playing with the big boys.
If the mugs look familiar, that’s because Fjellroa is the sister site to Kafé Kasserolle (spoiler alert: you’ll hear more about that restaurant soon…).
Here, we went traditional - no fancy toppings, just smooth, rich chocolate topped with a cloud of light, fluffy cream.
Simple, classic, and delicious.
Famed for its locally sourced meats, craft beer, and its legendary goulash soup (Suppegjok, served inside a hollowed-out loaf of bread), Skihytta is the stuff of foodie dreams.
We, however, were there for one reason and one reason only - hot chocolate and cake. And it did not disappoint. Served fireside, our hot chocolate was paired with a decadent triple chocolate muffin that was dangerously moreish. Not a crumb was left. Not a drop remained. We may have skied with a slight sugar buzz after a stop here - with no regrets!
Tucked among snow-laden pines, Knettsetra delivers a true Scandinavian log cabin experience.
As the fire crackled and the staff greeted us with warm smiles, we were handed a glass goblet of rich, authentic hot chocolate topped with whipped cream - the kind that melts just slightly into the drink, making each sip smoother than the last.
Warm, cosy, and utterly comforting - it’s hot chocolate, the Norwegian way.
Perched near the top of the mountain at Høyfjellssenter, Kafé Kasserolle doesn't just offer jaw-dropping views - it serves what we can only describe as the holy grail of hot chocolates.
Supersized mugs? Check. Whipped cream like a snow drift? Check. Gooey mini-marshmallows, rainbow Smarties, a cocoa dusting? Triple check.
Every mouthful was pure chocolate joy. It’s official: Kafé Kasserolle is where you will find your 'Hot Chocolate Heaven' on the mountain.
A special thank you goes to Fleur, who joined the skiScandinavia team for the week as our honorary hot chocolate connoisseur.
“Who can ignore the hot chocolate! Almost every run has a café at the bottom with hot drinks to warm even the coldest skier, and plenty of cakes and snacks if you get peckish.
This was my second time skiing in Norway with skiScandinavia, and somehow it was even better than the first. The team are so attentive and eager to help with anything you need.
Overall, I have to say that my ski holiday with skiScandinavia is one of the best I’ve ever experienced - and I’ll definitely be begging my parents to come back next year!”
Whether you’re a hot chocolate purist or a fan of the full works, we hope this guide gives you a few sweet stops to look forward to on your next Trysil ski adventure.
Got a favourite we missed? Let us know - we’re always looking for an excuse for another cup!
