Beginner Ski Holidays

Your Ski Adventure Starts Here...

There's nothing that beats the thrill, excitement and fun of learning how to ski!

But... before getting out on the slopes, we understand that booking your first ski holiday can be a daunting process, with lots of questions and unknowns... Which ski resort do you choose? What exactly is a ski pass, and where does it take you? How do you book your ski lessons?

...This is where we come in! We're here to share with you the un-paralleled joy of skiing in Scandinavia, and take you through every step of planning your first ski holiday!

Learning to ski in Scandinavia

Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, Scandinavia welcomes everyone that wants to enjoy the mountains! Locals are renowned for their un-pretentious, relaxed, helpful and outgoing personalities - and, as the saying goes, Scandinavians are "born with skis on their feet", meaning skiers in the area (which are often native) are competent, self-aware and patient when out on the slopes. You'll be met with the best ski-etiquette in the world!

To us, skiing in Scandinavia is not just a sport or a new skill to learn - it's an experience! From taking those first turns to gliding effortlessly through magical winter landscapes, you'll find your focus detaching from the mundane every day, and reconnecting with a new sense of self. Whether you experience skiing as a new found bond between friends or family, or enjoy the escapism and accomplishment of scaling the mountain, you'll understand why skiing is more than a past-time in Scandinavia, it's a way of life.

Easter skiing in Trysil, Norway - the perfect introduction to skiing

Considered a skiing paradise by many and a haven from busy resorts elsewhere in Europe, Trysil ski resort is renowned for its friendly, relaxed atmosphere, great snow conditions, long ski season, uncrowded well-groomed pistes, and world class ski instructors.

Designated ski areas that have wide, gentle, safe slopes and easy to use button lifts, encourage learning for those discovering their ski legs for the first time. Our experience and local expertise allow us to work closely with the local ski school to find the right fit for you. Fun, patient, English speaking instructors and small group lessons, arranged to suit your ability and requirements, will guarantee you have a fantastic time!

Easter skiing in Norway for the ‘in the know’ skier is already very popular. As well as excellent guaranteed snow conditions, quiet slopes and barely there lift queues, the days are more than 12 hours long so there’s plenty of time to enjoy both the slopes and authentic Scandinavian winter activities. While temperatures are stable (around zero degrees) there is still an abundance of fresh snowfall, creating velvety pistes and ideal conditions to learn in.

If you're looking for the best ski destination to start your ski career in, you'll find it in this incredible ski resort!

How does ski school work?

Our exclusive ski group lessons run for 3 hours each morning, Monday - Saturday, and start right outside the hotel.

funSki Academy

The small groups, based on ability and age, are designed to ensure your children love skiing as much as you do. The emphasis is on having fun whilst learning, with a more focused approach on coaching as age and ability grow.

  • 10 - 15 year olds, maximum group size of 9 children

vipSki Coaching

For adults we have vipSki Coaching; social and un-pressured skiing sessions in which to improve your skiing and explore the mountain. vipSki is designed to start just after and finish just before funSki lessons, for a completely stress free experience. The tuition is based on individual coaching within a group setting to improve and fine-tune techniques.

  • 16+ years
  • 2 hours 30 minutes each morning for 6 days

What is a lift pass?

Lift passes are available to buy when you book with us and will be given to you by one of our skiScandinavia hosts when you arrive in resort.

A lift pass allows you to ski seamlessly around the mountain, giving you access to all button lifts and chairlifts.

How will I know what skis are right for me?

As well as expert guidance from the staff in the ski rental shop, we will be on hand to make sure you find the perfect fit.

Your height, weight and shoe size will be needed to configure some of the equipment.

What type of travel insurance do I need for a ski holiday?

Most standard travel insurance policies won't cover ski holidays, so it's important you choose the extra 'winter sports cover' to ensure you're fully protected.

What if skiing isn't for me? Are there other things to do in resort?

Trysil is a great base for families, groups, couples, and single travellers with plenty to do in resort and the surrounding area. From ski to spa, swimming to bowling, husky sledding to magical horse sleigh rides, we have a fabulous choice of extra activities you can add into your skiScandinavia holiday.
