Skiing holidays in Scandinavia

Skiing holidays across Scandinavia continue to surge in popularity as discerning skiers go in search of the best snow conditions and quietest slopes. That being said, some of the more remote resorts in the far north of Norwegian and Swedish Lapland are still relatively undiscovered outside Scandinavia. These hidden gems offer incredible skiing holiday experiences that you just won’t find elsewhere.

Ski in Narvik, Riksgränsen and Björkliden

The Ofotbanen rail route is the most northern railway in Norway and is still actively used to transport iron ore from northern Sweden to the ice-free port of Narvik on the Arctic coast of Norway. It also links 3 of the Arctic region’s best ski resorts: Narvik, Riksgränsen and Björkliden, creating the perfect canvas for an epic, multi-destination skiing adventure.

Narvik is a bustling port town and is home to some of the most iconic ski slopes in Norway. Overlooking the fjords, the on-piste skiing in Narvik is beautiful and relaxed so you can get used to that view. Once you’ve got your ski legs back the area is widely regarded as one of the best in Scandinavia for off-piste and back-country.

Riksgränsen is the next ski resort on the Ofotbannen route, right on the Swedish side of the border. The village was once abandoned because of too much snow, which obviously is not something we’re going to be complaining about. The mixture of pisted and un-pisted runs are a joy to ski a huge selection of guided ski-touring and even heliskiing is available from the resort.

Last but certainly not least is Björkliden ski resort, where you will once again find fantastic snow and beautiful on and off-piste skiing conditions. Björkliden is also close to the stunning Abisko National Park, which is home to the Aurora Sky Station, widely regarded as one of the best Northern Lights observation points in Sweden, and a perfect chance to make seeing the Northern Lights a part of your skiing holiday.
