Åre is not only a ski resort, it’s also a hub for Swedish ski design. We recently visited Extrem skis, located on the outskirts of Åre village, to see their handmade skis which are designed and tested in the Åre ski area.
Some of the skiSweden team recently took a tour around the Extrem factory to see the skis from start to finish; from the shaping of the wood-cores, to the construction and pressing of the ski. This modern factory is a long way from where Extrem originally started in 1981, but the dedication to pioneering skiing and snowboarding equipment is still a core value and that really shines through.
The skis produced by Extrem range from award winning all mountain skis through to custom designed models, and every ski is handmade and hand-finished. If you fancy testing these handmade skis for yourself then you’re in luck. Extrem will be part of the Ski Test weekend in Åre this year. All you have to do is be there and you can test out this seasons skis and other gear, for free.
Åre Ski Test 2016-17
From the 8th – 11th December 2016 more than 40 brands will be in Åre to introduce their gear for the coming season. All you need to do is turn up, leave some ID as a deposit and you can test skis, snowboards and more. As well as the locals from Extrem, you’ll also find Smith, Head, Nordica, Scott, Black Crows, Oakley and more all present as exhibitors.
Åre’s varied terrain, from powder fields high on the mountain, to the weather protected woods on the valley sides, provide the perfect conditions for all levels of skiers whether you’re testing something new or trying some old favourites. After a fantastic start to the season the resort opens this Friday 19th November and the conditions are set to be fantastic for the test weekend and the rest of the winter. For further information on the ski area that shapes Extrem skis, or to enquire about being in Åre for the ski test week, send an enquiry to skiSweden today or give them a call on 0207 199 6011.
